Overview – This experience wasn’t quite as packed with puzzles as our other plays of the day but there was still room for a lot of originality and the big puzzle (you’ll know it when you see it!) was very impressive and very thoughtfully planned out.

It’s 1926 here in Chicago, and depression is still rife. Jobs are few and far between and the Prohibition has been in force for six years now. Everyone still drinks, nothin’ has changed. But now the mob control the streets, the supply and the money. The influence of the Outfit is far reaching. Most of the cops are even under their control. Who can put them in the joint? You can, that’s who.

The Commissioner has put together a special task force of straight, trusted cops and you’re on the team. You’ve spent the last few months infiltrating their network and now tonight is the night to get the evidence you need to put them away forever. But it won’t be easy, your cover might be blown!

Do you have what it takes?

Tulley’s Farm

Having spent the whole day hanging around here, we really enjoyed the opportunity to have a decent chat with our host after this game. It’s really great to see how passionate everyone here is about their escape adventures we left feeling very excited for their next offering.

The Outfitters

At the start this room didn’t seem quite as impressive as the others. Due to the theme, we began our adventure in an office area, which is a pretty standard escape room set up. Of course, things derailed from the norm pretty quickly and we were soon knee deep in a bootlegging enterprise that had us pulling at beer taps and running up and down some shady looking concrete stairs while arguing about what the lights might mean and whether we had missed something obviously earlier on.

There were a few things in here to get stuck on and we wasted quite a few minutes faffing with a puzzle that we didn’t actually have all of the components to solve yet and also attempting to manufacture a solution to a puzzle using shoddily fastened together pieces of other puzzles. It goes without saying that we failed but I like to think that we gave our host something to laugh at as she watched us flailing about in incompetence.

The originality of the puzzles, as with all of the experiences at Tulley’s Farm, were a massive part of our enjoyment and there was a great variety of different things to do. It was our quickest escape of the day and, despite their official ratings, I think we found it slightly easier than the others, but that could just have been because we were well warmed up to escaping by this point!

Overview – This room had some really great big puzzles which required more than just one brain and definitely more than one pair of hands! We had great fun rummaging around in the belly of this pirate ship, the puzzles were absolutely fantastic with lots of elements that we hadn’t come across before and, while not the most challenging of the Tulley’s Escape Adventures, it was an absolutely brilliant experience!

From https://www.tulleysescape.com/

It’s the year of our Lord 1672, and you be right in the height o’ the golden age o’ piracy…

After years of sailin’ the high seas, you and your crew have succeeded in your fair share of ambushes, and as a result – your ship is teamin’ with bounty.

Yet you’re still suffering beneath the cruel wrath o’ Captain Starling – a notoriously bloodthirsty buccaneer, and your shipmates have decided you all shall take matters into your own hands. After all… you fought for the gold, so the gold is yours for the taking, aye?

Once the old seadog has retreated to his berth for the night, you make your move. Get in, get the treasure and get out. You won’t have long before he starts to stir – and Starling shows no mercy to ANY soul…

Tulley’s Farm

We really enjoyed our time at Tulley’s Farm, playing through the four adventures that they had on offer. Our hosts were all lovely and enthusiastic and the waiting area was easily able to accommodate the large numbers of people that came and went throughout the day, and we especially enjoyed crowding around the wood burning stoves every time that we returned from a trip outside!

Mutiny

The design of this room created a great atmosphere, lots of wood and ropes to help with the illusion of being below decks! I really enjoyed the way that we discovered different parts of puzzles, some of them in the first few seconds, and then had to work through other parts of the room before we had everything that we needed. It meant that there was lots of moving back and forth around the escape, trying to remember which puzzle we needed to return to with our new element, and it helped to add to the tension that there were some puzzles that just took ages to fully complete.

The big puzzles in this room were absolutely amazing and even while we were completing them we were all commenting on how original they were. We all really enjoy tackling types of puzzles that we haven’t come across before and this room really ticked that box. The physical puzzles in here were very enjoyable and forced some good team communication which, again, is something that we all enjoy in a room! There were also a few observational elements that we are notoriously bad at as a team, but a spate of bickering over what each other could actually see just added an extra bit of difficulty to our escape!

Aesthetically, this room is probably my personal favourite at Tulley’s Farm, from the monkeys to the cannons to the pile of sand that we ended up crawling around in! Our host told us when we went in that we’d have to duck and, being all of five foot nothing I didn’t believe her, but of course she was right – always listen to your games master!

Overview – This room definitely lived up to its five star difficulty rating with so many puzzles crammed inside that there were many moments that we were sure we’d never reach the end! It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience with lots of variety to the puzzles and the spooky atmosphere really added to the tension.

From https://www.tulleysescape.com/

The old manor house is entwined with local legend, the living don’t remember the Nethercott’s, the family’s hay day was long ago. Local folk talked, whispers were heard, rumours began, lights were seen within.

The Nethercott’s are long gone but something remains, an essence, a smell, a feeling, it’s in the fabric, in the walls, under the floor boards … it ticks, it creeks … take a trip into the past, uncover the family’s many secrets and glimpse their fleeting souls?

Tulley’s Farm

This was our third game of the day here and our host for Nethercott Manor was absolutely lovely! She as genuinely excited when we made it out and there was something really fun about bursting straight into the waiting area where other teams were gathered.

Nethercott Manor

I was little worried about how scary this experience would be and was told that it would be Scooby Do scary so not to worry! The creepy atmosphere was pretty good, a few jumpy moments that made me swear and some well themed eerie rooms that added to the tension.

This room has an incredible variety of puzzles, and so many of them that getting through them all in under an hour was definitely a challenge. We met another team on our visit who burst out triumphantly having finally escaped on their third try and they were still really enjoying the experience! The quality of the puzzles was great and we encountered lots of original elements that we hadn’t come across before all in a fantastically decorated room with masses of space to explore.

One of the hosts here told us that some people complain that this should be a 90 minute challenge as it’s so difficult for a team to escape on their first attempt and, while I agree that it is a very difficult room, it is also advertised as such and increasing the time would make a challenging room much easier. We loved the level of difficulty here, it’s the closest that we’ve ever come to failing an escape (ignoring the room that two of us played which broke making escape impossible) and we thoroughly enjoyed both the volume of puzzles and also the challenge. The final few minutes were very tense and involved a fair amount of shouting and running!

Overview – There was so much to do in this escape and a massive variety of puzzles which made the experience very exciting! The space was massive and really well used with amazing scenery and theming. There was a great element of challenge to the puzzles in here, we really had to do some thinking to solve them. Overall, we just had so much fun in this room!

Dodge City in 2127 remains a stronghold of the wild west. The constant tussle between the sheriff and local gunslingers means there’s opportunity abound for some creative bank robbery for those with wits and courage.

As a member of the Notorious ‘Barn Door’ Gang you’ve been caught by the local sheriff breaking into the bank. Locked away with little hope, hired by an unnamed outlaw and facing the ruthless justice of the old west you’re left with only one option.

As the sun sets the race is on to break out, reclaim your supplies, pull off the bank job of the century and get out of Dodge City.

Tulleys Farm

Tulleys have a lovely waiting area with plenty of seating for multiple teams and a variety of little table top puzzles to play while you wait. The hosts were friendly and enthusiastic and very keen for teams who don’t make it out on their first attempt to try again with a 50% discount. We met one team who were on their third attempt at a game and were still enjoying the experience, though it probably helped that they final made it out on their third try!

Dodge City

The start of this room is great fun. Locked inside separate cells, we really had to work together to get out! Two of us had tried the beginning of this room with a couple of escape room newbies, so we were playing this room with a bit of knowledge for the first few minutes but we really didn’t get very far on that first play! We had completely underestimate the scale of the place and our other friends were a bit overwhelmed with the experience which meant that we weren’t really playing to finish!

I think that the Tulleys 50% voucher for a repeat play of a failed room is a fantastic offer. Playing the room was just as enjoyable on the second attempt and the two of us who had seen the beginning puzzles before just kept the solutions to ourselves so that the others could figure out the answers. We barely remembered anything from our first play though and it didn’t take long to reach sections that we hadn’t got to previously!

The look of this room is amazing, with so many different sections and a vast variety of different puzzles to get stuck into. I loved that there were multiple puzzles that we’d start solving only to discover that we didn’t have everything we needed and had to complete them later, sometimes adding parts to a solution several times which really added to the urgency of the escape! Every time we came across a new piece of an old puzzle the solution inched closer but we were still left short and just wanted to solve it already!

Overall, we were really blown away (pardon the pun) with both the variety and level of difficulty here. It challenged us in quite a few different ways and we left feeling as though we’d really worked for our escape! It’s one of the few rooms that I actually think I’d be able to play again and still enjoy even having solved all of the puzzles before, it set a very high bar for the rest of the day as we were playing all 4 escape adventures available on this visit and left this room very excited for the next.
